The SD Legislative Research Council, the nonpartisan research and support staff to the South Dakota Legislature, is accepting applications for Session Staff for the 2021 Legislative Session.

A variety of diverse and essential positions are available including committee secretary, office assistant, text editor, sergeant at arms, and front desk chamber staff in the House of Representatives and Senate. This is an excellent opportunity for college students taking a gap year, people seeking short term employment, and retired individuals looking to stay in the workforce on a temporary basis.

Duties and Responsibilities vary depending on position but could include providing clerical support to the legislature’s Standing Committees; staffing the main office of the Legislative Research Council; assisting with proofing and typing legislation; keeping order in the legislative chambers; and providing support in the House and Senate chambers.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school required, some college preferred. Applicant must be able to work the entire 2021 Legislative Session, from January 12 to March 11, and be available for training in early January.

Salary Range: Hourly wages will vary depending on position and work-related qualifications.
